Most people who take a health and safety class think they'll never have to use what they've learned...

On July 2, 2006, Thomas Mangine of Lockport, helped save the life of a two-year-old girl. The child’s eight-year-old brother found his sister lying at the bottom of their above-ground pool during a family get-together with friends. He pulled her out and called for help. She had no signs of life. Thomas Mangine had learned CPR at a Red Cross health and safety class. He administered CPR and got the child breathing again. Thanks to the skills Thomas learned from the Red Cross, this little girl is alive today and suffered no brain damage from the incident.

 But what would have happened to this child if Thomas Mangine had not had the skills he learned from this Red Cross program? What would have happened if there were no Red Cross Chapter to offer programs like this and so much more?

Every day, the Lockport Chapter of the American Red Cross performs small miracles in our local community…miracles that are funded by people like you.

Few people realize that the Red Cross relies on donations from the community to provide the services and programs it offers. And 100% of local donations stay in Eastern Niagara County to beneft its residents. • Assisted 27 families with food, clothing and shelter after fres in their homes
• Provided emergency communication for 50 military families living  
   in our community
• Enrolled 6784 students in Health and Safety courses
• Collected 4453 units of blood
• Provided fuel assistance to 32 families
• Loaned 104 pieces of hospital equipment free of charge
• Provided Community Disaster Education training and materials  
   to 1735 people
• Provided blood pressure screenings for 501 people
• Deployed 17 volunteers to National Disaster Relief operations
